Johnnie Marie Paeztold was born September 2, 1929 in Groom, Texas, to Joe and Nora (Smith) Paeztold. While still an infant Johnnie moved with her family to the Hereford area. She attended St. Anthony’s School and Hereford Schools and graduated from Hereford High School. She met and fell in love the George E. Turrentine, they married August 16, 1949 in Hereford.
Johnnie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother she was supportive of all of their daughters school and extra-curricular activities. She was a founder of the Deaf Smith County Museum which is housed in the building where she attended St Anthony’s grade school. She served Deaf Smith County residents as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 from July 1, 1986 thru December 31, 2002. Her husband received a citation for speeding and had to appear in Judge Turrentine’s court. He, thinking she would dismiss the ticket, was surprised that she fined him the maximum amount, to show everybody that she treated everyone fairly. That caused a little bit of tension in the Turrentine household. Paul Harvey learned of this story and reported it nationwide on his radio news show.
The legacy she leaves is three daughters, Jan Whelan and husband Ron of Austin, Carol Haile and husband Jim of Hereford, Patti Stool and husband Ethan of San Antonio, Grandchildren,
