Funeral Services for Gayle Cotten, 76, a long-time Hereford resident and business man are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2019 at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Leonard Cotten, Mr. Cotten’s Nephew and a retired pastor of Calvary Chapel Church in Midland officiating. Interment will follow in West Park Cemetery. Services are under the personal care of Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Cotten passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019 in Hereford.
Gayle Cotten was born August 31, 1942 in Andrews, Texas to W. B. and Blanche Miller (Commons) Cotten. He attended Andrews Schools graduating from Andrews High School in 1959. Gayle then attended West Texas State College obtaining his Bachelors and then his Masters degrees. While he was going to School in Canyon, he met and fell in love with Kay Crouch. They married March 25, 1966 in Canyon. They moved to Tulia and later to Hereford in 1968. He worked for John Messenger as an accountant. He then became a Certified Public Accountant in 1972. He was owner of Cotten and Warrick Accounting firm.
Gayle was very active in Lions Club. He served as President, was on the Board of Directors for Hereford Lions Club. He was Vice District Governor and District Governor of District 2T-1 of the Texas Panhandle. Gayle also served as treasurer for the club for many years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Hereford Day Care Center, was on the Deaf Smith County Hospital District Board of Directors. Gayle was President of that Board when the funds were secured for the building of the new hospital.
Mr. Cotten proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves.
The legacy he leaves are his wife of fifty two years, Kay Cotten, three sons, Curtis Cotten and wife Lara of Amarillo, Clint Cotten of Waxahachie, Texas and Brad Cotten of Marco Island, Florida, two sisters, Helen Morris of Midland, Texas, and Barbara Finney of Denton, Texas, five grandchildren, Kristen, Ryan, Julia, Mason and Kace and one great-granddaughter Presley.
Mr. Cotten will be available for viewing from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials in Gayle’s name be made to a charity of choice.
